It’s that time of year folks. The tripod will go up on the morning of 23rd September – feel free to come along and add moral support. Building of the bonfire starts the following week on the 30th September. Please come to the green at 9am to help make this the best bonfire in Surrey and the UK. No experience needed – everyone is welcome. Refreshments provided.
What an awesome evening. Thanks to all the organisers, helpers, volunteers and the pig who generously got spit roasted for us. Social media tells us that the fireworks were the best ever, the bonfire was hotter than ever and there were more facebook likes and retweets than ever before. In fact the website got so many hits that our hosting provider turned it off at 5pm. We’ll get a new host for next year – sorry for the inconvenience folks.
Meanwhile here’s a little bonfire video to remind you of how good it was:
On 21st April 2016, Her Majesty the Queen celebrates her 90th Birthday, and in celebration of this wonderful milestone at 8:30pm, Beacons will be lit that night across the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and the United Kingdom Overseas Territories, marking this unique moment in history.
The Bonfire Committee has been asked by the Parish Council to provide a Beacon to mark the event on the Village Green. Our President, Harold Mullard (who himself has celebrated a 93rd Birthday in March) has advised that we have lit Beacons during his lifetime to commemorate a royal occasion starting with 1935 Silver Jubilee of George V; The Coronation of Elizabeth ll in 1953; Her Silver jubilee in 1977 and more recently for her Diamond Jubilee. Beacons were also lit as part of celebrations in 1945 for Victory in Europe and later that year for Victory in Japan that was included in the film, centred around Chiddingfold “The Years Between”
So it would be fitting that we continue to provide a tribute to mark this milestone within our village community. We are awaiting the final confirmation for timings for lighting our Beacon, but it can be expected at around dusk – please keep a look out on the village noticeboards; the Chiddingfold Bonfire website (http://chiddingfoldbonfire.org.uk) and I will also post an update on Facebook Chiddingfold Community Page.
Teas, coffee and hot chocolate will be available on the evening – any profits made will be distributed locally.
Many thanks to everyone who came. It was without doubt the best fireworks display that we have seen. Here is a gallery of photos from the night. Please give credit to Chiddingfold Bonfire Association if you use them and link to this website. I have also uploaded super-high-resolution versions that you can download and use with the same conditions. See you all next year!!
