Bonfire Builders

Those of you passing through the village recently might have noticed that the Bonfire tripod has made its annual appearance on the Green. The Helpers are back in action, once again, building the bonfire for the annual Chiddingfold Bonfire night. It’s starting to take shape already, but we could do with some more willing helpers on the green on Saturday mornings to help build it. It’s great fun and we even provide you with bacon butties, cake and coffee.

If you would like to help with marshalling this great occasion then please contact Steve Baker via the bonfire website or come along to the marshals briefing for a few beers ………Oh, and that briefing!

General Help

As you can imagine, an event like this involves a huge amount of setting up – putting up tents, trestle tables, fences, road diversions, cones, etc, and clearing away afterwards – leaving the village green as clean and tidy as we can. Please, please, please spare a few minutes on sunday morning to help with clearing away, please contact Simon Manuel.

Raffle Tickets: Every year we have some great prizes. Thanks to all those who donate and congratulations to those who won! We already have some amazing prizes lined up for this year’s event and any assistance you are able to provide selling raffle tickets would be most welcome. Maybe you would like to donate a prize – please contact Jane Devlin.

The bonfire raises money via street collections which is given to villagers over the age of 70. Each year, nearly £5000 is distributed to 140 elderly residents of the village. We also raised enough money to make donations to worthy local causes and helpers. But money cannot be collected without your assistance. So if you would like to help ‘shake a bucket’ on the night, please contact Gill Allen at the village post office.

Totally Awesome Idea! … How about charging a little for your guests to come to your Bonfire party and donating your entrance fees?

  1. Hi, Please can you let me know when you are building the 2016 bonfire, as i have a lot of pallets at my work, i need to get rid of
also who to contact about this

    1. Hi Paul

For 2016, you can deliver palettes to the green from the last Saturday in September. Please make sure that there are no nails or toxic substances on the palettes as we need to ensure the safety of our volunteers. Every year we receive more combustible matierial than we can use, so I’m afraid that we can only accept palettes delivered in person on a Saturday morning when we have volunteers to receive them.

  2. I have a large amount of tree debris (branches etc) from the winter storms available if you can provide transport to move from Haslemere to Chiddingfold.

    1. Hi Robert, We usually have more material that we are able to accept. Thank you for the offer, but we are unable to cellect it from you.
